Eileen Lichtenstein and I had the opportunity to speak with 4th and 5th graders about career choices. Speaking with students about their abilities and career options is always a rewarding experience and today was no exception. The students were all very interested in our stories and the path that got us there. Interesting how inquisitive they are and how the questions actually impacted my presentation. I was expecting to deliver information yet they were so willing to share their goals, hobbies and interests that we just explored career ideas solely on their comments. Dancing, singing, movie director, chef, soccer/football/basketball player were all mentioned. Technology careers were mentioned by many.
What no one said was that they wanted to work for a specific company. Go back a generation or two and I bet that many would have given responses naming specific companies, not any more. This generation understands that they are more in control of their careers then perhaps ever before. With many more options also.
Seems that Eileen was preparing the students early for stress relief, “Kids love “punching the sky” and then #relaxation breathing. 😀” and they did. It was great to see the students paying so much attention to her.
Many of our team members regularly speak at schools, grade schools through colleges. We are very much aligned with the schools that want to being more businesses in to speak with their students. This allows the students greater exposure to career knowledge, business and communication skills along with exposure to life issues beyond the school environment.
Just let us know your needs, we will help.
